End of Summer

This summer school break coming to an end signifies the “end of summer” for me even though summer is not officially over until September 23.

Just as I celebrated the idea of relaxation & time to play at the ‘beginning’ of summer I now find myself “sighing” thinking it’s time for me to get “back to work”. Even to the point of having a mental tantrum resisting the change: “I’m not, I’m not, I’m not!” Well…I’ve learned I’m not the only one with this attitude. After talking with others, this is pretty much how many of us react to change. Like it or not change is something we can always count on. In nature & in life. It is how we choose to react to change that truly matters. We can ignore it & pretend it’s not happening, dig our heals in & resist it (my tantrum attitude), or acknowledge the truth that change is a-coming & take steps to make for a smoother transition.

I make light of my first reaction to the end of summer but in life, I have learned I’d much rather ‘change by choice’ than change because I’m forced to. Resisting or ignoring change has never really worked for me…and reflecting on clients I’ve worked with; I am not the only one. Ignoring seems to only prolong the inevitable – change will happen…sooner or later!! But take heart! Change does not have to be so daunting!

Life Coaching tips:

→Be aware of a shift or sign a change is coming. Ignoring just delays the inevitable.

→Talk about it with a trusting friend or coach – expressing concerns or fears helps clarify the unknown. Perhaps fear will turn into excitement!

→Explore what more do you need to know.

→Take a tip from nature: Like leaves falling to make way for new growth…what might you need to let go of in order to grow this new season?

→Give yourself permission to take it slow, moving forward step by step…taking control might just open up new opportunities!

Taking my own advice…I’ve decided to look forward to the new season. I’m letting go a few things to make room for opportunities I’m passionate about!

HAPPY FALL!
